Keytar
My odds to achieve rock stardom keep stacking up against me. Language, nationality, age, choice of instrument, and now, stage fright.
When you play keys in a band, your natural position is the back of the stage. It is easy to space out and hide, turning your attention inward to the music instead of facing the cheers of the crowd. You don’t have to worry about anyone checking your fingers move across the keyboard. Many keyboard players love it there.
But do they experience guitar-envy? Would they want to stand in the spotlight next to the rock star they support? I bet many would like to try swapping the darkness of the backstage for center stage spotlights.
Some of them have tried and switched to the keytar. Very few artists could pull it off. Take Prince. But wait - he already played guitar. Lady Gaga has been a recent inspiration for us back stagers. But the unfortunate trend is that the eighties called, and they want their keytar back.
The song I am introducing is inspired by two rock stars I used to work with, and who granted me the occasional solo. But this song is more about us backbenchers than about rock stars. This Daryl Hall-like song will be fine without John Oates.
You won’t hear a guitar or bass guitar on this track. Keys only! There is an aggressive inverted piano to start. There’s angry staccato. Dissonants flying from mixing minors and majors of the same key. This pianist has anger management issues…
But we know our place. Sound support comes from the back: https://artists.landr.com/057829730830

Rock on Garth🤣
